In Fernando Pó, wine is part of daily life.
Traditionally, it is sold at the cellar door, to families from all over the country who were looking for the best wines to stock up for the whole year. They came at weekends, swapping stories and snacks. And they became friends. It is this genuineness that Adega Fernão Pó is determined to maintain.
Be welcome!
WINE AS IT IS
The Adega de Fernão Pó is a family business owned by Fernando Pó, the result of the merger of the Freitas and
Palhoça families, who have been associated with viticulture and wine production for generations.
Viticultural
tradition of the region. At that time, Fernando Pó was a place of pilgrimage for families from all over the country
who went there to find the best wines to stock up for the whole year.
THE TERROIR OF FERNANDO PÓ
The plain of Fernando Pó is renowned for the quality of its grapes. It has been divided into small farms since the
arrival of the railway in 1861 and is characterized by a layer of soft sand covering the clay soil. The microclimate,
tempered by the Tagus and Sado rivers, protects and favours the perfect ripening of the grapes.
The result is
wines that are known for their good structure, body, colour and, above all, aromas.
TRADITION AND TECHNOLOGY
At Adega Fernão Pó, the Freitas & Palhoça family strives to combine tradition with the best of modern
technology.
The winery has been constantly improved over time and has the capacity to process around 1000
tonnes of grapes. Social and environmental concerns are also taken into account, for example by participating in
the Wine in Moderation and Business and Biodiversity programmes and by producing grapes with environmental
certification.
